Let me introduce you to Baby Tiponi. Kate Hoskin is the proud owner of this on-line business. Her enterprise specialises in baby slings, growbags, reusable nappies and their accessories. You will find the site extremely informative with lots of practical advice and ideas too. The business is based in Teignbridge, Devon, but being on-line makes it easily accessible to all busy new parents.
You may well ask what Tiponi means? Well, it is a Native American Indian word meaning child of importance this is also the motto for the business. Kate felt that this encapsulated perfectly how every parent sees their new baby, as a child of importance.
A Passion For Travel
Kate grew up and went to school in rural Shropshire. After finishing college she decided to follow her heart and begin a travelling adventure. It took her first to Italy, then on to Majorca, Fuerteventura, Bahamas, Cayman Islands, Valencia, Lanzarote and Andalucia.
After 11 years of travelling she decided it was time to put down some roots. After making that decision, it was then that she met her husband and moved to Devon, they married, bought a house and had a baby!
From Conception To Delivery
The idea for Baby Tiponi came to Kate in the late stages of her pregnancy. Kate felt that there was a lot of conflicting information about what was deemed necessary to buy for a newborn baby.
It was all very confusing and a lot of unnecessary stuff was out there. I wanted to create a site that was user friendly and simple, but to the point. Everything on the site is something I have personally thought necessary for when little one arrives. The great thing is that as my own little one grows, so I can add products to the site that I have found useful in day to day life
The site was launched in January 2012 selling a range of re-usable nappies, baby slings, growbags and accessories. All of the Baby Tiponi products are tried and tested by Kate, her friends and the network of parents that Kate sees as part of her association with Teignbridge District Council and their real nappy programme. The Tiponi range is expanding quickly and Kate is keen to get feedback from parents so as to find the right products. For this reason Kate is happy to give advise on choosing or sourcing products that are yet to appear on the Tiponi website.
Babywearing – The Perfect Accessory
You will also find slings (baby carriers) on the website. Kate has carried out training to become a peer support in babywearing with the School of Babywearing. This means that Kate is able to provide you with help when making your decision on what sling is best for you, your little ones and your lifestyle.
Kate has always been the employed and not the employer and because of her travels she gained a lot of experience in different work ethics and abilities to turn her hand to what was needed.
Having always worked in industries with a strong customer service element, it is really important to Kate that Tiponi is seen to give an excellent service to its customers. She really wants expecting parents to see and try the nappies and slings before they decide which products are best for them; whether they are first time parents or existing parents re-thinking how they want to do things.
I enjoy what I do. I get to meet so many people from all walks of life and everyone has a story to tell
As well as managing Baby Tiponi Kate attends antenatal and Mother & Baby groups. She always takes along her supply of demo nappies and her sling library so that people can have a good look and feel of the products and even try a few out for fit and functionality. Look out for the new edition of Tallulah; a babywear demo doll who can model nappies too!!
If you are unable to get to any of the groups, Kate holds two meetings a month where people can come along to see what she has and ask any questions about nappies or slings.
Teignbridge Real Nappy Adviser – What Does That Mean?
Kate is the Teignbridge real nappy adviser working alongside Teignbridge District Council and administers free, four week nappy trial kits. The parent is given a bucket full of nappies (about 15 in total), an accessories bag and a folder full of useful information about how to best use the nappies. Kate will be on hand to guide you through and help with any questions you may have during and after the trial. On completion of the trial, if the parents liked the nappies and would like to buy them, Kate offers a hefty 20% discount off of their first purchase. It seems to be a win, win situation. Kate gets to spread the word about the benefits of cloth nappies. The parents get to try then out for free and if they like them (and most do) they then get to buy the nappies at a great price and they also get the on-going support and advise from Kate.
