I’m about to introduce you to the cheeky, innovative, quick thinker that is Jonathan Fletcher.
Jonathon’s business is called Living the Cream; and he sells West Country ice cream from his vintage style ice cream tricycle. Living the Cream was set up just four months ago and is based in the small market town of Somerton, Somerset where Jonathon lives.
The idea for the name of the ice cream selling business came whilst Jonathon was working for his old company,
We used to always joke that we were living the dream and it just seemed a good play on words. People seem to enjoy the name of the business, it makes them smile.
Jonathan’s first thoughts for the business name were God Save the Cream but he found that it had been trademarked already. In hind sight, Jonathon now believes that Living the Cream is much more fitting for an ice cream selling tricycle!
From Somerset To Lincolnshire – And Back Again!!
Jonathon was born in Somerton, Somerset and grew up there until he was eight years old, after which his parents up rooted and moved to Lincolnshire. Jonathon had such fond memories of the pretty little town in Somerset that he decided to move back there twelve years ago.
Somerton is situated on the river Cary and lies about eight miles from Yeovil. It is a very pretty Saxon town with a market square complete with buttercross. The town has held a market in the square since the Middle Ages. The town today is still a lively place; with visitors enjoying, amongst other things, and a week long Arts Festival in July.
When Jonathon isn’t working he likes to relax with a spot of kayaking, surfing and trips away in his VW campervan. He is also a keen photographer and you will often find him with a camera in his hands.
Some of his most impressive shots were taken whilst travelling. Jonathon said ‘I’ve been to a few exotic places but the Maldives wins hands down’. He has also travelled to Morocco, Zanzibar and Hong Kong.
Ice Cream Selling Tricycle! Where Did The Idea Come From?
For the last ten years Jonathon has worked in sales, marketing and ecommerce selling print cartridges and laptops, prior to that he worked in the print industry for ten years. Jonathon was looking for a complete change of direction and ice cream seemed to provide the answer.
The idea for the ice cream selling business was conceived after a discussion with a friend who is in the wedding industry. He felt that there was a gap in the market for a quirky ice cream seller at weddings. People always love to do things a little bit different at weddings; they are always looking for that special something that nobody has had before. Living the Cream certainly fits the bill!
What’s New At Living The Cream
The funs doesn’t stop with the vintage tricycle, oh no. The business can also provide a playing gramophone and a seaside peep through board! Wedding parties love it; it makes for great photos with the guests.
Daisy is the new love in Jonathan’s life. They met over a crowded reclamation yard in Wells. After a lick of paint and some new tyres Daisy is ready to venture into the world of wedding photography. Don’t you think she would look great with a newly married couple cycling into the distance………
Jonathon has some great ideas to expand his business. He would like to have a fleet of trikes that sell other items such as Pimms or cocktails, great for parties as well as weddings. In the long term the plan would be to franchise the business out all over the country, not just limit it to the West Country.
Made With Fresh Westcountry Moo!!
Living the Cream only sell the finest ice cream; made in the West Country of course. They use Lovington’s in Castle Cary, Somerset. It not only delivers on taste but also on flavour. They sell the most amazing varieties from traditional Chocolate, Strawberry and Vanilla to Rhubarb & Custard, Lemon Meringue and Marmalade.
The ice creams are served in delicious waffle cones and they can offer a selection of sauces and toppings. They also carry a stock of Razzle Dazzle Ices. These ices are dairy, wheat and gluten free making them ideal for any guest who may have special dietary requirements.
With all of the tremendous flavours on offer I had to ask Jonathon what the most popular flavours were.
the most popular flavours are still the old favorites like chocolate, mint choc chip, vanilla, sticky toffee and strawberry’.
Living the Cream can cover the West Country, the South, the UK, Europe, the world…. but mainly the West Country! You will find Jonathon regularly promoting his unique business on social media sites such as Twitter or Facebook.
