Lorna Young runs Shaker Maker on Fore Street, Exeter.
It’s the place to get a great milk shake made from your favourite ingredients! She started Shaker Maker because, she felt there was nowhere you could go in Exeter where you could purchase a really delicious home made milkshake.
She wanted to create a place where you could be as indulgent as you liked or as healthy as you possibly could be – it’s up to you!
You can also get sandwiches, crisps, soup and soft drinks from Shakermaker – so it is great for a takeaway lunch too!
Exeter Shaker Maker
Lorna opened the doors to Shaker Maker in December 2007. She lives in Exeter and really loves the city with a passion so it was always the only place she wanted to run her business.
I came up with Shakermaker after bouncing a few ideas around, and because it sounded catchy!
Lorna cares about supporting the South-West economy and uses local products and ingredients wherever possible. She is also passionate about providing an excellent service.
I am 100% passionate about what I do, whether it’s finding the best local supplier or just sending someone away with a smile of their face!
Because I am an independent I can do what whatever anyone wants.... even making a Tuna milkshake if the mood fits!! I also love going that extra mile for someone, so once they leave they haven’t forgotten you!
A Milk Shake Or Smoothie – Heaven In Devon
You can choose the type of milk you have in your milk shake – full cream, semi skimmed or skimmed, then choose what else you wish to go in.
There are many fruit milkshakes to choose from, like strawberry and banana and more unusual ones like melon and blueberry.
Then there are more treat shakes than you can possibly imagine, including Cadbury’s Cream Egg®, Maltesers®, Twix®, Cadbury’s Fudge® and Liquorice Allsorts® to name but a few!
Or if you are feeling like something a little healthier – you can choose a fruit smoothie.
There are also some non-dairy options and you can even add wheatgrass to your juice drinks or milkshakes too. Plus if there is anything you would like but do not see – just ask.
You can even have a savoury milkshake.
I once had a more mature gentleman in who suggested the new trend in the market was savoury milkshakes.....
I told him I could happily make one of these and already worked towards that trend. He looked rather taken a back but felt he couldn’t now not buy one, so off he went with a Roast Chicken & Bacon Shaker!!!
Fore Street, Exeter
Lorna believes the South-West is a great place to run a business. Exeter is a fabulous city, surrounded by hills which you can even see right from the city centre. As well as the lovely locals it attracts many tourists visiting each year with big appetites looking for special treats or a wholesome healthy snack.
And she finds Fore Street, Exeter in a particular, a wonderful place to work. There are many independent shops along the road and a there is great community amongst the business owners. They get together to promote their shops and to provide support for one another.
There are lots of exciting things happening at the moment so just watch this space!
Lorna found fame on Twitter when Theo Paphitis from Dragon’s Den chose her to be a part of his Small Business Sunday. This is a Twitter competition – hashtag #sbs – which runs every Sunday where Theo chooses a small local businesses to retweet which means you get seen by his many, many followers. He retweeted Shaker Maker, along with 5 others, selected from over 1600 businesses who had applied that week. Lorna was very proud to have been chosen!
